Rhubarb Sundae, Happy Tuesday
Ask someone to name his favorite day of the week and, more often than not, the answer will fall on the weekend. I actually quite like Sunday as I feel less pressure to “do something.” Sunday is for long naps, catching up or sprinting ahead depending on your personality; I use Saturday to sleep in and go to bed late.
But my favorite day of the week is Tuesday. By then, Monday is over and you’ve finally come to terms with the (work) week ahead. The reason why I like Tuesday best, however, is more sentimental. Tuesday used to be the day I’d send and receive an email from my friend Peter in Denmark. He was my classmate in college, but he was only in the States for one semester. When it came time to say goodbye, I invited him to write me each week to share his adventures back home in Copenhagen. He replied, “Okay, which day?”
Tuesday.
We were digital pen pals for a couple of months and it was great. But our correspondence stopped when I got hit by a car during spring break in Greece. I was in a hospital in Athens for two months without Internet access, which tends to stem the flow of communication a bit.
Although we no longer write each other every week or even every month, I still look forward to seeing what Tuesday brings. And I’m extra careful when crossing the street.
